Like most cities and municipalities in the Rhine Valley, Hohenems is increasingly struggling with the problem of increasing urban sprawl. The project in question tries to counteract this by accommodating the entire spatial program in a compact structure, so that as much open space as possible remains for sports and games. The cubature is positioned in such a way that it connects to the area of greatest density, a generous outdoor space is created to the south and west. This opens with seating steps and sports field to the west, a green zone to the south is oriented towards the center. The schoolhouse itself is related to the development on Maria-Waldburga-Straße, a spacious entrance loggia invites you to linger and watch. After entering the building, the auditorium -the heart of the school- is straight ahead. It creates the vertical connection and leads the way of the pupils past the central cloakroom to the clusters via a wide staircase that is spanned by a glass roof at the top. In summer the auditorium, library and music area can be opened to the outside and offer a pleasant break area and space in the sun for the supervised afternoon hours. Due to the vertical separation of school rooms and sports facilities, these areas can be used trouble-free during all-day operation, positive synergies determine the interaction!
