The new service center of the Austrian Student Union acts as a new hub on the campus of UNI Graz. It is planned as a 2-storey pavilion and functional areas such as printing, faculty offices and social rooms are positioned in the basement below. Thanks to the light wells and light strips punched into the basement, all workplaces and social rooms can be oriented directly towards the daylight, creating private open spaces for this user group. The green courtyards do not cool down as much in winter or do not heat up as much in summer because they are sheltered from the wind and offer a high degree of self-shading. They can therefore be used without mechanical cooling. The offices of the Student Union with party traffic are located on the 1st floor, a wooden reception desk with a kitchenette welcomes the students. In the street-side offices you can concentrate with view to the treetops of Schubertallee and you are spatially linked to the extensive UNI campus. At street level, the service center appears transparent to reveal the books and the existing villa behind. Generous canopies and the furnishing of the service center made of light birch plywood combined with dark steel elements, as well as the 24/7 opening times of the copy shop invite students to browse and communicate.
