The same as in the time when it was created – Bozner Platz is once again a public space used in a complex way. Without functional and formal specializations it enables people to cross from anywhere to anywhere. The proposed design of the Rudolf fountain – with a new, second water ring to sit on – counteracts the asymmetry of the traffic axes and gives the square an adequate setting. The entire square is raised to the level of the pavement and is given a ramp in the fairway area at the edges of the square, which deliberately acts as a decelerator and draws attention to the meeting area. Tall groups of trees of different types and heights protrude from gravel islands, with wide spaces in between to maintain visual connections to the fountain. A consumption-free stay is reserved for the central area, while on the gravel islands under groups of trees providing shade, mobile seating ensures variability and communication. The fountain area forms the tree-free center as the only barrier in the network of footpaths between the main train station and the city center, like that maintaining its original value. The proposed, native granite – a light paving stone mix laid in a Roman bond – becomes darker towards the beer gardens and recreational areas and adapts to the gravel surfaces of the basalt tree slices. The formal idea of defining a clear edge of the square is emphasized by coloring and changing the panels. A clear connection to the houses is created and the beer gardens are widened at the edge. The shading and the system of the sponge city principle applied here ensure a temperature reduction of the square and an ideal root space for the tall trees. If you arrive under the shady canopy, you can briefly dive into a cloud forest. If necessary, spray nozzles additionally reduce the city heat through transpiration cooling. A roundabout system is proposed at the intersection with Meinhardstrasse in order to reduce the traffic jam in the direction of the train station. 5-6 meters high, bronze light masts bring about a pleasant brightening of the treetops and together with the illumination of the fountain, they provide good orientation in the evening.
