In terms of urban space, the positioning and proportions of an atrium house together with the SOWI define a square that is closed off at the rear by the backdrop of the old trees. Inclined and crossed plazas connect the levels of Hofgarten, bus garage and foyer with one another in a very succinct manner. The public passage between Kaiserjägerstraße and Hofgarten brings the courtyard garden with 3 trees into the middle of the MCI Platz, an outside staircase oriented to the SOWI enables a quick connection of all axes at the side. The main front refers to the opposite north facade of the SOWI, the square opens invitingly to the street space and a spacious entrance loggia, together with the MCI café (upper square level) and the meeting point (lower square level) invites students, visitors and residents to linger. The simple volume defines the open spaces on the area, the interior is the conceptual continuation of the plaza landscape. At the entrance level, the entire floor appears transparent, making public use visible to the outside. An inner atrium creates vertical lines of sight and leads the way to the departments via cascade stairs upwards. This increases the clarity and intuitive orientation in the building. Extra rooms such as the cloakroom for the Union’s athletes will be set up at car park level, and skylights to the Bundesgarten provide light. A staircase leads to the sports field / grandstand level, which is accessible to the public via Kaiserjägerstrasse. The upper floor floating above with the canteen and club rooms communicates with the opposite facade of the Audimax above the head of the players.
