House of generations – 3rd place

St. Johann

An ensemble of 5 towers, which are combined into two house families by a green garden deck above the base zone, play with slight differences in their building height. An elongated and four point-shaped structure characterizes the appearance. In the assisted living area, the houses are aligned parallel and fit in with the neighbors along the swimming pool path like a puzzle piece. Two higher towers facing the railway line form a backbone, the two lower towers next to each other are discreetly withdrawn and react sensitively to the incidence of sunlight and light. In terms of urban planning, the southern ensemble also interweaves itself by twisting towards each other and with the beautiful landscape along the river. The resulting atmosphere has similarities to village, small-scale urban spaces. A subtle color scheme and awnings provide a slightly Mediterranean flair and a timeless understatement. This hybrid mix offers a contemporary alternative to the standardized mono structures in currently prevalent residential construction. The entrances to the kindergarten, exercise room and the common rooms of the assisted living home are easy to find and protected by spacious canopies, which create shady open spaces for hot summer days.  This gesture of connection enlivens the base zone and creates a promenade up to the promenade on the river bank. A protected place as a center for all generations to meet and linger is the heart of it.
