A 1200 m2 riding arena, 30 boxes, a covered lunging + jumping arena and a huge horse coupling were to be located in a depression at the foot of the Schaftalberg in Kainbach near Graz in 2012. It should not be a dusty, dark stable, but a horse performance center with high standards: internationally and nationally successful tournament and polo horses stay here: the owners have made it their goal to provide professional support for horses, riders and young riders and focus on dressage and jumping. It is an agricultural building that is reduced to its functions, but with a lot of wood and a wide stable alley, despite being low-budget, it appears friendly and spacious and from the outside, thanks to the dark color of the roof, it is integrated into the wooded landscape – like a rock. The landscape protection had to be motivated by the architects for the gray coloring of the roof; dark green would have been the requirement. The hall is a two-jointed, self-supporting gable roof frame structure with steel tension straps and frame beams made of planed glued laminated timber. From the Reiterstüberl you can overlook the hall or look through the high skylight into the green nature behind it. The north orientation of the exposure and the choice of a translucent textile membrane offer ideal conditions for the training of the highly sensitive guys: here it is not too loud, not too hot and no ray of sunlight disturbs concentration. There is also a separate apartment for the stable boy to provide 24/7 care.
